Take a song that was written in 1953 and first recorded by The Drigters. Then let that song become a hit single Johnnie Ray. Then, take that same song, give it to Evlis, and let him record and release a version...
Then you wait a few years, you pull that song back out, you change a few lyrics, you put a little spoken word in there. Oh yeah, and you give it to Aaron Neville. What do you have? A gloriously soulful Christmas tune with one of the most unique voices ever to grace the radio waves. Give it up for Aaron Neville - Such A Night
But, there's a musical history buff inside of there (which I know I am, and I had no clue about this song before this blog post) and you would like to listen to the song transform from 1953 to it's recent incarnations, feel free to click through the following links and give them a listen!
- Clyde McPhatter and The Drifters Listen close, you'll hear a lot of elements from this song in Neville's version. Not to mention, Clyde McPhatter
- Here's a white guy NOT named Elvis giving his interpretation of "Such A Night": Johnnie Ray - Such A Night This was a #1 in the UK, believe it or not...
- And then there's Elvis with his unmistakable voice: Elvis Presley - Such A Night
- And then The Four Lovers (who would go on to become The Four Seasons) gave us their interpretation: The Four Lovers - Such A Night
- And then there's a version with Neville admitting it was "turned into a Christmas song." And it's my favorite version of them all. Aaron Neville - Such A Night (Live)
